6.3 Installation
Important installation notice The AI camera installation is a critical step of the installation as the vehicle detection and localisation will be directly impacted by the installation parameters:
The camera installation is a decisive step. The camera must:

Installation Steps
What position on the vehicle?
The camera must be fixed on a non-moving part of the vehicle. Ideally the camera is centered on the vehicle but most important, the field of view needs to be clear.
In case of an obstacle in the field of view (mast, counterweight on a forklift) the camera must be positioned elsewhere .
How high on the vehicle?

Height installation |

ℹ️ For optimal detection performance, install the camera at an height between 1m and 3.2 m |
What happens higher than 3.2 meters?
Installation higher than 3.2 meters are possible as the system works properly but the system performance is not fully caracterized. As a result the installation can not be characterized in a general way but in a specific way.
You can contact Blaxtair Team to ensure that the installation provide nominal performances
What camera angle?
At this point, you will need to adjust camera's orientation.

What Roll angle?
Roll angle must remain 0°.
What Yaw angle?
Most of the time the yaw angle must remain to 0° but if the position is too off-centre, the yaw angle can allow the camera field of view to focus on the area to be monitored.
What Pitch angle?
Pitch angle depend on the height and the field of view.
If the field of view is clear, the angle of the camera maximizing the performances for pedestrian detection is presented below.
Height (m) | Range angle (°) | Low angle | High angle | Vehicle detection performance |
1m (3,2ft) | [5° +5°] be carfull not to install the camera with 0° angle | Zone:

1.50m (4,9ft) | [10° +/-5° ] | Zone:

2m (6,5ft) | [15° +/-5° ] | Zone:

2.5m (8,2ft) | [17.5° +/- 7.5°] | Zone:

3.2m (10,5ft) | [25° +/-5° ] | Zone:
|
If following the above angle recommendation, an obstacle is in the field of view of the camera, the camera angle needs to be as close as possible to the range on the table but avoiding the obstacle:

Obstacles on the camera field of view should be avoided as much as possible especially the parts of the vehicle where the blaxtair is installed:

What happens if the customer wants to detect beyong 20m (60,6ft)?
Performances are not guaranteed
Detections beyong 20m are possible but the system performance are not fully caracterized. The installation require a check by the Blaxtair Team to ensure nominal performance.
Configure the zones
The configuration needs to be done accordingly to the installation. A proper article relating to zone configuration: 6.4 Configuration
